Color Me Bad!

Monday, August 31st, 2009

pantone-all-in-one

Along with the changing season comes the forecast of the new season’s color palette. No color forecast is more prominent, followed, or efficiently predicted than Pantone’s. Their color trends are extremely accurate.

For those of us that don’t literally translate fashion colors into every piece of our outfits; you can simply use them as an accent color or add them as a simple ‘pop’ to your outfit. Apply them to your accessories. Incorporate them into your fall cosmetics palette. Opt away from your routine french manicure/pedicure and choose a fall color for your nails and little piggies. On your next shopping trip or during your next AprilMarin purchase, keep the color palette in mind and add a little autumn ’spice’ to your wardrobe.

Make an Impact!

Friday, August 28th, 2009

An emerging trend among statement-making women is high impact jewelry. This would be your chunky bracelets and cuffs, bib necklaces, and oversized rings.

Jewelry once thought to be “gaudy” or “flashy” in the past is now very much fashion-forward. It is the ultimate accent piece to any outfit. From jeans and a t-shirt to your custom, classic AprilMarin dress, high impact jewelry will add that extra ‘umph’ and pop to our ensemble. An eye-catching, chunky  necklace can be a conversation starter for anyone.

These pieces can be found anywhere; boutiques, department stores, consignment shops, vintage shops, and retail stores.

Transition Pieces for the Fall Season

Thursday, August 27th, 2009

Where did those summer months go? As August comes to a close, it is time to start transitioning our wardrobes towards fall fashion. No need to jump right into sweaters yet!

The essence to transitioning your wardrobe is finding lightweight materials in subtle colors, in styles that give a few ‘hints’ of the fall trends to come. Pieces worn right now can be layered with tights, cardigans, jackets, and fashionable scarves as the weather starts to change.

Transition Office Pieces: figure-enhancing ‘40s-inspired looks.

Expect a lot of va-va-voom at the office this fall.

Transition Shoes: fresh pair of mules or clogs.

They are a wonderful alternative to early season ankle booties or flats. You can find them by some of your favorite designers.

Designs by Rali

Wednesday, August 19th, 2009

We are just raving about the jewelry made by the lovely ladies at Designs by Rali! These women have a deep passion for jewelry and it is reflected in the beautiful earrings, bracelets and necklaces they have created. Their unique pieces are each hand crafted with the finest semi-precious stones. Sterling silver, gold vermeil beads, and findings accent the jewelry. I love that they have made elegant, colorful, and completely wearable and affordable pieces that are very versatile. They can easily be the main focus of your outfit, or accent and compliment an outfit nicely.  This jewelry makes a perfect gift for a loved one, a friend, or even just treat yourself!  Custom creations are also available at request. Keep an eye out for their upcoming fall collection!

Pictured below are two of my personal favorites, the Ruby Rosary Necklace and the b-e-a-utiful Lapis Lazuli Gypsy Hoops.

“30 Things Every Woman Should Have and Should Know by the Time She’s 30″

Tuesday, August 18th, 2009

I received this list in an email today, and felt the need to share it with all.  I am not yet 30, but I think women of any age should at least consider these things because they are realistic, important, and make tons of sense. Live life to the fullest and smile everyday, life is too short not to!

This list is often credited to Maya Angelou, but after a little research, I discovered that it was actually written by Pamela Redmond Satran.  Enjoy!

By 30, you should have:

1.                One old boyfriend you can imagine going back to and one who reminds you of how far you’ve come.

2.                A decent piece of furniture not previously owned by anyone else in your family.

3.                Something perfect to wear if the employer or man of your dreams wants to see you in an hour.

4.                A purse, a suitcase and an umbrella you’re not ashamed to be seen carrying.

5.                A youth you’re content to move beyond.

6.                A past juicy enough that you’re looking forward to retelling it in your old age.

7.                The realization that you are actually going to have an old age—and some money set aside to help fund it.

8.                An e-mail address, a voice mailbox and a bank account—all of which nobody has access to but you.

9.                A résumé that is not even the slightest bit padded.

10.            One friend who always makes you laugh and one who lets you cry.

11.            A set of screwdrivers, a cordless drill and a black lace bra.

12.            Something ridiculously expensive that you bought for yourself, just because you deserve it.

13.            The belief that you deserve it.

14.            A skin-care regimen, an exercise routine and a plan for dealing with those few other facets of life that don’t get better after 30.

15.            A solid start on a satisfying career, a satisfying relationship and all those other facets of life that do get better.

By 30, you should know:

1.                How to fall in love without losing yourself.

2.                How you feel about having kids.

3.                How to quit a job, break up with a man and confront a friend without ruining the friendship.

4.                When to try harder and when to walk away.

5.                How to kiss in a way that communicates perfectly what you would and wouldn’t like to happen next.

6.                The names of: the secretary of state, your great-grandmother and the best tailor in town.

7.                How to live alone, even if you don’t like to.

8.                How to take control of your own birthday.

9.                That you can’t change the length of your calves, the width of your hips or the nature of your parents.

10.            That your childhood may not have been perfect, but it’s over.

11.            What you would and wouldn’t do for money or love.

12.            That nobody gets away with smoking, drinking, doing drugs or not flossing for very long.

13.            Who you can trust, who you can’t and why you shouldn’t take it personally.

14.            Not to apologize for something that isn’t your fault.

15.            Why they say life begins at 30.

P.S.  I also suggest that you make the go-to interview/date dress in number three an AprilMarin!

Mrs. Obama in RED!

Monday, August 17th, 2009

Mrs. Obama is proving herself fashionista icon yet again. She is seen here in a classic and tailored dress, and we love that it’s red! Because it is such a bold color, we think it’s great that she chose minimal accessories and let red be the main focus. When wearing your next red outfit, let Michelle lead as example and pair with black or neutral shoes as well. Thanks, Mrs. O, you have done it again!

Look stunning in a similar simple red dress from AprilMarin.  Get yours at aprilmarin.com!

The Latest Handbag Trends for Fall

Thursday, August 13th, 2009

When searching for your next season’s handbag, try jewel toned one! Add a bit of warm color to your everyday wardrobe with a green, blue, or maroon (or basically any shade of your choice) bag, while accomplishing this trend. Unlike trendy totes with outrageous metal hardware, this stylish handbag will be able to be worn with any look, will be able to be worn more often, and continued to be worn even after this trend has ended. What more could you ask for?  Maybe this… Bonus!  Many designers have gone a step further and made beautiful jewel toned purses in suede, which is also popular this season; so kill two trends with one stone and buy a suede one! The luxurious material will make you feel great about the money you may be spending on the bag, and to your surprise you can wear a colored bag with more than you think!  A jewel toned bag will go great with other colors of similar tone.  Throw on a colorful outfit to match the bag, or wear a more neutral outfit to make the bag your feature accessory.

We love the Dooney & Bourke ‘Juliette’ Nubuck Satchel in Moss and the Cole Haan Contrast Piped Hobo in Ultraviolet, but there are so many out there, so find your fall favorite!
